The Insider Story Behind the New Kespero Website (And Why We Had to Enhance It for the Age of AI)

There is an old saying that the shoemaker’s children are always the ones who go barefoot.

In the world of business consulting and creative agencies, a similar paradox exists. Marketing firms spend 100% of their creative energy, analytical brainpower, and late-night hours fuelling the growth of their clients. They build beautiful platforms, optimize conversion funnels, and craft flawless brand messaging for the companies that hire them. But when it comes to their own digital front door? It often gets left on the back burner. It was time for a new Kespero website.

For a long time, we at Kespero fell into a version of this trap. We are a marketing consultancy dedicated to helping small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) across Toronto use marketing as a genuine driving force for long-term growth. Because we view ourselves as true partners who grow with our clients, our hands are always full doing the real work.

When we started out, a simple, clean landing page was enough. It told people who we were, listed our phone number and email, and acted as a basic digital business card.

But businesses change. The market evolves. And eventually, your digital footprint needs to grow up to match the reality of what you actually deliver every single day.

We realized we had outgrown our old digital home. Our web presence wasn’t fast enough, it didn’t showcase the depth of what we do, and it didn’t reflect the modern reality of how people find information online. So, we decided to turn our own core slogan—get found, get clients, and keep them—inward. We became our own toughest client.

After a fast-paced, highly intense 30-day sprint, the new kespero.com is officially live.

This isn’t just a celebratory announcement about a fresh coat of digital paint. Instead, we want to take you behind the curtain. We want to share the honest story of how we built it, the roadblocks we ran into, the frameworks we developed along the way, and why the shifting landscape of artificial intelligence (AI) means you might need to rethink your website, too.

1. Moving Past the “Landing Page Era”

When you are a small business starting out, speed to market is everything. A single landing page is a perfectly fine way to validate your ideas, display your contact info, and establish baseline credibility.

However, a landing page has a fundamental limitation: it treats your business as static.

As we spent more time on the ground with Toronto business owners, our consultancy naturally matured. We weren’t just helping people run a few social media ads or put together a basic flyer. We were acting as strategic advisors, building robust custom websites, executing high-level creative campaigns, and running complex performance marketing initiatives.

Our old web presence simply couldn’t hold the weight of that reality. When a prospective client visited our site, they couldn’t see the full scope of our capabilities. We lacked sufficient content to explain how we think, how we approach growth, and why our long-term partner mindset sets us apart from traditional agencies that just look at transactional, short-term projects.

We needed a multi-page framework that could act as a guided journey. Today, when a visitor lands on the new Kespero homepage, they are immediately met with clear paths based on what they actually need. We segmented our solutions into four core areas:

  • Websites: Building high-performing, reliable web platforms that serve as a business’s 24/7 sales tool.
  • Creative Execution: Crafting visual assets, copy, and branding that genuinely resonate with a target audience.
  • Performance Marketing: Running data-driven campaigns designed to yield measurable returns on investment.
  • Strategic Advisory: Acting as an extension of management teams to build sustainable, long-term marketing plans.

By expanding from a single landing page to a dedicated solutions framework, we did something critical for our business: we mapped our digital infrastructure to our actual customer journey.

2. The Battle for Milliseconds: Designing for Speed and AI Search

When we sat down to draft the technical requirements for the new site, we established one non-negotiable rule: it had to be lightning fast.

In traditional marketing circles, people talk a lot about Search Engine Optimization (SEO)—the art and science of getting your website to rank high on Google when someone searches for your services. SEO is still incredibly important, but the ground beneath our feet is shifting. We are firmly in the age of AI search.

Today, busy founders and consumers aren’t just clicking through ten different links on a Google results page. They are increasingly turning to text-based response platforms, AI chatbots, and conversational engines to find answers to their business problems. They ask questions like, “Who is a reliable marketing consultant for a small business in Toronto?” or “What are the best web design packages for an SMB?”

To be recommended by these AI tools, your website cannot just look pretty on the surface. It has to be highly optimized under the hood. AI crawlers favor websites that are structurally clean, perfectly responsive across all mobile devices, and extraordinarily fast.

This requirement led to the hardest roadblock of our entire 30-day build. After much testing, we were able to achieve excellent excellent performance, accessibility, best practices and SEO scores on Google’s PageSpeed Insights.

The Perfectionist’s Dilemma

Because we are creatives and developers, we are naturally perfectionists. We wanted rich visuals, smooth transitions, and deep content. But every single feature you add to a website adds weight. And weight slows things down.

We spent days testing new ideas, tweaking the backend architecture, and constantly measuring our site speed. There was a point in the middle of the project where we had to ask ourselves the hard questions: Where do we draw the line? Where do we stop tweaking and declare it good enough to launch?

To keep ourselves honest, we hired external consultants and reviewers to audit our work. When you are too close to a project, you develop blind spots. You miss errors because you know what the site is supposed to do. Having outside experts look at our code and our user experience gave us the objective feedback we needed to get over the finish line.

The persistence paid off. Through rigorous testing, minifying code, optimizing asset delivery, and ensuring flawless mobile responsiveness, we managed to make the new Kespero website among the fastest-loading sites on the internet.

Whether you are a human browsing on an iPhone while riding the TTC, or an AI bot scraping our site to see if we are worth recommending to a local business owner, the site delivers data near-instantaneously. We applied the exact same level of technical rigor to the backend that we do to the visual frontend.

3. Demystifying the “DIY and AI Website” Illusion

One of the biggest shifts in our industry over the last few years has been the explosion of Do-It-Yourself (DIY) website builders and generative AI design tools. Advertisements everywhere tell small business owners the same thing: “You don’t need a professional. Just click three buttons, type in a prompt, and you’ll have a fully functional business website in ten minutes.”

It sounds amazing in theory. In practice, we noticed a major problem developing among Toronto SMBs.

We discovered a distinct niche of business owners who had used these automated tools to build a website, but were still completely struggling with their online presence. The tools gave them a layout, but they didn’t give them a strategy.

  • They didn’t know if it was “good enough”: Without a background in design or user psychology, founders couldn’t tell if their layout was actually driving trust or confusing visitors.
  • They couldn’t write copy that resonated: AI tools often generate generic, robotic text that sounds like everyone else. Founders are experts in their specific fields—whether that’s construction, logistics, retail, or professional services—but writing persuasive marketing copy that converts a stranger into a client does not come naturally to them. Nor should it.
  • The attention deficit: Business owners have a million different tasks pulling at their attention. Managing supply chains, handling payroll, and taking care of clients are full-time jobs. Spending an entire weekend trying to figure out why a contact form isn’t working on a website is a massive drain on their mental bandwidth.

Historically, getting professional help meant reaching out to an agency, setting up a series of meetings, and waiting days or weeks just to get a custom price quote. For a busy founder, that extra hurdle is often enough to make them put off the project entirely.

We wanted to eliminate that friction completely. That brings us to our absolute favorite feature of the new website.

4. Introducing Transparent, Off-the-Shelf Web Packages

To solve the hurdle of confusing agency pricing, we did something bold for a consultancy: we productized our core web services.

Alongside our bespoke, fully custom enterprise solutions, we have officially introduced flat-rate, off-the-shelf web design, development, and maintenance packages. We put our pricing, our deliverables, and our timelines right out in the open on our website.

Graphic showing the Kespero productized approach with three circles showing the words "Transparent Pricing", "Fixed Deliverables", and "Zero Guesswork" in each one.

Our goal with these packages is simple: give small and medium-sized businesses a rock-solid, high-performance digital foundation that supports growth, while entirely minimizing the technical burden on the founders and management teams.

When a business chooses one of our packages, they aren’t just getting a template. They are getting our team’s expertise in making sure the copy sings, the design converts, the SEO parameters are set correctly, and the site is optimized for the modern age of text-based AI search. We handle the technical heavy lifting, the security updates, and the maintenance, allowing the business owner to focus entirely on running their company.

By removing the “request a quote” hurdle, we make it easier for local businesses to get started online without any guesswork or hidden fees. It is an off-the-shelf product they can run with, backed by a team that acts as their long-term growth partner.

5. A Website Is a Living Organism

If there is one major takeaway we gained from building the new kespero.com, it is a reality check that we constantly share with our clients: a website is never truly finished.

Our new site took about a month of focused internal effort to launch, but as we write this, we already have a list of updates, new resources, and content hubs that we plan to roll out over the coming months. A healthy business changes, adjusts its offerings, and learns from its customers every single day. Your website should be a living, breathing reflection of that evolution.

We don’t view the launch of this site as the end of a project. We view it as the launch of a new framework that will allow us to grow, share more insights, and better serve our community. In fact, the very process of pushing through our own perfectionism, fighting for millisecond improvements in page speed, and working with external reviewers helped us refine our internal systems. The frameworks we built for ourselves during this past month are already being deployed to improve the speed, quality, and accuracy of the work we do for our clients.

What’s Next?

We built this platform to be a resource for the Toronto SMB community. Whether you are looking for clear-cut solutions to your marketing challenges or just want to see what a highly optimized, modern website feels like, we invite you to take a look around.
